About The Position

The Advanced Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and optimizing CNC and manual machining equipment, including lathes, mills, and boring bars, to manufacture precision metal components that meet engineering specifications, quality standards, and production requirements. This position requires advanced machining knowledge, strong blueprint interpretation skills, and the ability to independently troubleshoot machining processes to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and consistent product quality. The Advanced Machinist serves as a technical resource within the machining department by maintaining high standards of workmanship, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and contributing to the successful completion of customer orders while upholding JR Metal Works' commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Advanced experience operating and setting up CNC and/or manual lathes, mills, and boring bars in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T, and machining specifications.
  • Proficiency using precision measuring equipment including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, dial indicators, height gauges, and related inspection tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot machining processes, optimize machine performance, and consistently produce precision parts within tight tolerances.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and monitor CNC and manual lathes, mills, and boring bars to manufacture precision components within specified tolerances.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T, work instructions, and job travelers to ensure accurate machining and product quality.
  • Select, install, and adjust tooling, workholding, offsets, feeds, and speeds to optimize machining performance and efficiency.
  • Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments to verify dimensional accuracy and ensure compliance with customer specifications.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues, identify process improvements, and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality, reduce scrap, and maximize productivity.
  • Complete production documentation accurately while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company standards.
