About The Position

Join Edison Works’ Next Generation Products (NGP) Steady-State Performance team to advance Adaptive Cycle Engine (ACE) new product introduction for applications such as the F-35 and other next-generation combat aircraft. The team works on research, development, production, and support of advanced military propulsion technologies for the U.S. Armed Forces and its allies. As a Steady-State Performance Lead Engineer, you will contribute to the definition, development, and testing of next-generation adaptive engines, including the XA102. You will collaborate with Systems, Steady-State Performance, Operability, Controls, and Transient Performance (SPOCT), Design teams, and customers to develop, predict, and validate engine performance capability. Near-term work includes maturing engine designs, preparing for engine tests, data reduction and test planning, and partnering with airframers on integrated aircraft platforms.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field from an accredited university or college.
  • At least 3 years of engineering experience; aerospace, mechanical, and/or test experience is identified as ideal.
  • Ability to maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance; U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite for clearance.
  • Ability to meet the U.S. Person status requirement for access to U.S. export-controlled information. Listed qualifying statuses are U.S. lawful permanent resident, U.S. citizen, or granted asylee or refugee status.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and operate credibly in an engineering-driven culture.

Nice To Haves

  • Currently holding an active U.S. government security clearance.
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • At least 5 years of engineering experience, ideally including leading testing.
  • Experience with system-level thermodynamic modeling and/or data analysis.
  • Working knowledge of NPSS.
  • Working knowledge of data plotting or visualization tools.
  • Strong foundation in thermodynamics and aerodynamics.

Responsibilities

  • Develop thermodynamic cycle models and perform analyses using Numerical Propulsion System Simulation (NPSS), including pre-test prediction and data-reduction models.
  • Plan performance-related test coverage, analyze test data, compare results with predictions, and propose options to resolve performance issues identified during design and testing.
  • Perform trade studies to evaluate alternative design options and document recommendations.
  • Build and maintain working relationships with SPOCT, internal engineering partners, and external customers.
  • Define and conduct testing of equipment and/or systems; select testing strategies and measurement systems; and report performance against guaranteed values in accordance with industry standards.
  • Participate in research, design, development, and enhancement of technologies focused on performance, operability, and cost optimization.
  • Apply technical knowledge, analytical thinking, and engineering experience to execute strategy and serve as a resource for less-experienced colleagues.
  • Use sound judgment to propose solutions beyond set parameters, including for complex, interdependent manufacturing or production processes.
  • Explain technical information clearly and help team members reach consensus.
  • Lead small projects with low risk and resource requirements, convey performance expectations, and handle sensitive issues as needed.

Benefits

  • Professional development
  • Competitive compensation
  • Relocation assistance
