This role focuses on building and configuring a prototype virtualization environment on a commercial server platform. The engineer will be responsible for installing, configuring, and troubleshooting various virtualized services, including voice and voice-recording, as well as supporting network services. The position involves developing and executing prototype configurations for high availability, virtual networking, virtual LANs, quality of service, and system backup and recovery. A key aspect of the role is integrating wireless client devices, wireless routing, and voice call paths with the prototype environment and approved handset interfaces. The engineer will also support trade-study research and hands-on evaluation of candidate voice-recording, network-switching, network security gateways, boundary-protection solutions, and related commercial components. Integration and testing of analog telephony, audio, relay, and other legacy interfaces using appropriate gateways and adapters are also required. The role includes creating test procedures, collecting data, documenting defects, supporting root-cause analysis, and executing integration testing in laboratory environments. Maintaining version-controlled configuration files, build notes, network diagrams, test records, and engineering artifacts is essential. The engineer will also contribute to technical reports, including prototype design, test results, limitations, and recommendations.
