Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2 years Pre-hospital EMT-B Experience
  • Ability to assess needs of acute and chronically ill patients and their families.
  • Ability to document and communicate pertinent information using computer and/or paper documentation tools.
  • Demonstrates age-specific competencies in the care of neonates, infants, toddlers, pre-schoolers, school aged, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety precautions.
  • Must be able to apply advanced knowledge and training, developing and executing a plan of care, and rapidly intervening in life-saving procedures.
  • AEMT - Advanced Emergency Medical Technician - State of Pennsylvania (Upon Hire)
  • BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association (Upon Hire)
  • DL - Driver's License_PA - State of Pennsylvania (Upon Hire)

Responsibilities

  • Administers immediate medical care to victims of accidents, violence, and sudden illnesses.
  • Provides pre-hospital and intra-hospital intermediate advanced life support care.
  • Represents the ambulance service at public service functions and provides ambulance stand-by services.
  • Documents full assessment and treatments in patient care charting software.
  • Cares for patients in psychiatric, medical, and traumatic crisis.
  • Serves as a member of a two-member ambulance crew.
  • Operates equipment such as bag valve mask resuscitators, external defibrillators, and electrocardiograms.
  • Assesses the nature and extent of injury or illness to establish and prioritize medical procedures.
  • Responds to instructions from a dispatcher and drives and operates specially equipped emergency vehicles.
  • Administers drugs via injection, intravenous procedures, or oral administration under the direction of a physician.
  • Communicates with professional medical personnel at emergency treatment facilities.
  • Cleans and decontaminates the ambulance after transporting or treating patients with infectious diseases.
