About The Position

Medavie Health Services West (MHSW) is seeking an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) for a temporary position. The Roving ACP will provide immediate treatment and transportation for sick and injured individuals in Central Alberta, operating within the scope of Advanced Care practice and providing leadership. This role requires a high level of professionalism, communication, and knowledge, with accountability to patients, coworkers, management, and the public. MHS West is committed to patient safety and fostering a respectful workplace, and is part of Medavie, a not-for-profit health services organization dedicated to improving the health of Canadians.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Alberta Operators License class 1, 2 or 4.
  • Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics
  • Completion of Alberta Health Services MCP’s
  • Certified in and maintains CPR certification
  • Current registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics
  • FARE Certificate required
  • Must be in good physical health with no disabilities that will impair duties as a Paramedic.
  • Considerable lifting and movement of heavy patients
  • Will need to extricate patients from hazardous environments

Responsibilities

  • Provide immediate treatment and transportation of sick and injured individuals.
  • Operate within the knowledge and scope of Advanced Care practice.
  • Provide leadership throughout each shift.
  • Make decisions regarding the safety of the ambulance and patients.
  • Work alongside Primary Care Paramedics (PCPs).
  • Maintain personal knowledge and skills in accordance with the Alberta Occupational Competency Profile (AOCP).
  • Safely operate MHS - West vehicles in accordance with safety manuals and regulations.
  • Stock and maintain vehicles in a state of readiness.
  • Work in hazardous environments to ensure patient safety and stabilization.
  • Collaborate with outside agencies in a coordinated effort for patient care.
  • Document all patient care, assessments, and skills in patient care reports (ePCRs) in a timely and legible manner.
  • Be punctual and ready to respond at the start of their shift.
  • Act in a professional manner and handle conflict situations with good judgment.
  • Follow the MHS - West chain of command.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Refer all media requests to the General Manager of MHS - West.
  • Report all incidents and complete written incident report forms.
  • Develop and provide continuing educational requirements.
  • Maintain functional awareness of MHS - West Operational Guidelines and AHS medical control guidelines.
  • Participate actively in the MHS - West Quality Assurance Program.
  • Develop a plan for maintaining and improving self-directed professional growth.
  • Advise superintendent of injuries that will impair duties.
  • Actively participate in public awareness and community education programs.
  • Maintain professional appearance of the approved uniform and maintain hygienic and grooming standards.
