About The Position

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for accomplished biology and biophysics researchers experienced in molecular biology, biophysics, structural biology, immunology, neuroscience, genomics, mechanism prediction, experimental design, literature interpretation, reference solution review, and technical evaluation. This role supports current and upcoming remote consulting opportunities focused on advanced biology and biophysics task design, scientific reasoning evaluation, research-level solution review, model output assessment, failure analysis, and high-quality project execution. Selected professionals will contribute deep life sciences expertise to author and review challenging tasks that reflect the reasoning level of active researchers across major biological and biophysical disciplines.

Requirements

  • Current or recent active research role as a PhD candidate, postdoc, instructor, faculty member, principal scientist, or industry researcher
  • Strong research output in biology, biophysics, life sciences, or a closely related field
  • Deep expertise in one or more advanced biological or biophysical disciplines
  • First-author or co-first-author publications in highly respected journals such as Nature, Science, Cell, PNAS, eLife, NEJM, Nature Methods, Nature Medicine, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Communications, or top specialty journals
  • Doctoral or postdoctoral training at a highly selective research institution
  • Ability to write rigorous biology or biophysics problems, evaluate advanced solutions, and explain subtle reasoning gaps clearly
  • Strong written communication skills and ability to work independently in a remote, project-based environment
  • Current PhD enrollment, completed PhD, postdoctoral training, faculty role, industry research role, or comparable advanced research background in biology, biophysics, or a related life sciences field is highly relevant
  • Outstanding senior PhD students and recent graduates with strong publication records are encouraged to apply
  • Research backgrounds in molecular biology, biophysics, structural biology, immunology, neuroscience, genomics, computational biology, systems biology, or adjacent disciplines may be especially valuable

Nice To Haves

  • Competitive fellowships, awards, or recognitions such as HHMI, HHMI EXROP, Hanna H. Gray, NIH F31/F32/K99, NSF GRFP/PRFB, Damon Runyon, Helen Hay Whitney, Jane Coffin Childs, Searle, Pew, Sloan, Packard, Simons, Fulbright, or equivalent
  • Issued patents, spin-out companies, or grants where the contributor was a named PI or co-PI
  • Experience reviewing advanced experimental designs, biological mechanisms, structural biology analyses, literature reasoning, research manuscripts, benchmark tasks, or graduate-level problem sets
  • Experience across multiple biology or biophysics subfields
  • Ability to contribute approximately 8–20 hours per week depending on project scope

Responsibilities

  • Author and review challenging biology and biophysics problems used to evaluate advanced scientific reasoning
  • Create tasks involving mechanism prediction, experimental design, biological interpretation, literature reasoning, structural analysis, or genomics-based reasoning
  • Develop rigorous problem statements, reference solutions, and evaluation criteria
  • Ensure tasks reflect real research-level biological reasoning rather than textbook-style exercises
  • Evaluate outputs on biology and biophysics tasks across molecular biology, biophysics, structural biology, immunology, neuroscience, genomics, and adjacent disciplines
  • Surface areas where reasoning fails, especially subtle mistakes that experienced PhD-level researchers would catch quickly
  • Classify issues involving flawed mechanism interpretation, weak experimental design, unsupported biological claims, incorrect literature interpretation, or incomplete scientific reasoning
  • Provide clear written feedback grounded in active research expertise
  • Collaborate with project teams and other senior contributors to maintain high standards of accuracy and rigor
  • Review challenging tasks across molecular biology, biophysics, structural biology, immunology, neuroscience, genomics, and related research areas
  • Help refine evaluation criteria and review standards for advanced biological and biophysical reasoning
  • Maintain strong documentation, consistency, and scientific precision across submitted work

Benefits

  • Remote structure with flexible scheduling
  • Competitive hourly compensation
  • Weekly payments via Stripe or Wise
  • Projects may continue on an ongoing basis, or may be extended, shortened, or adjusted depending on scope and performance
