About The Position

This posting is for the 2026-27 school year. Roosevelt High School (RHS) is dedicated to providing excellence in education and serving the energetic and dynamic young people of Sioux Falls. Our goal at RHS is to challenge each student to achieve their potential by focusing on classroom structure, practice time, guidance, and analytical thinking. We are seeking an Advanced Algebra Teacher to join our team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and endorsements in the areas of teaching assignment.
  • Current, valid South Dakota teaching certificate.
  • Successful student teaching experience.
  • Hand-eye, mind-eye coordination.
  • Constant hearing; intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing.
  • Frequent carrying, keyboarding, and other repetitive motions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Skills in human relations, leadership and conflict management.
  • Knowledgeable of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Demonstrated skills in the use of technology to enhance student learning.
  • Valid South Dakota teaching certification with endorsements in the assigned content area.
  • Completion of at least one hour of approved youth suicide awareness and prevention training every five years.
  • Must obtain Alternative Preliminary Certificate BEFORE applying for teaching position if pursuing Alternative Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare instructional tasks that are meaningful and related to learning goals.
  • Provide instruction to students by implementing District curriculum, maintaining a strong instructional focus, communicating high expectations and clear learning goals, adapting instruction to meet diverse needs, addressing various learning styles, sequencing content appropriately, using effective questioning, relating lesson content to prior and future learning, requiring students to summarize information, recognizing and reinforcing student effort, representing knowledge non-linguistically, organizing students into groups, requiring students to analyze and apply knowledge, displaying enjoyment and enthusiasm for teaching, and conducting ongoing assessments.
  • Provide an effective classroom environment by establishing and enforcing clear rules and procedures, redirecting students naturally, being well-organized, ensuring smooth transitions, maximizing time on instructional tasks, beginning and ending class with a focus on learning, and establishing a positive learning environment.
  • Participate in professional growth opportunities and demonstrate professionalism by participating in ongoing professional growth, school/professional/community organizations, completing routine tasks, complying with District requirements, communicating effectively with colleagues, parents, and students, conducting parent-teacher conferences, following District and building policies, supporting District goals, reporting student progress, and performing other assigned duties.
