About The Position

Chapel Hill Public Library is seeking an Adult Programming & Outreach Coordinator to join their Adult Services Division. This role supports the library's mission by developing and executing a community-centered programming and outreach strategy for adults of all ages. The ideal candidate will build meaningful relationships with patrons, colleagues, and community partners, and will be eager to supervise frontline staff and foster an inclusive work environment. This position requires a passion for working with adults, enthusiasm for community engagement, and skills in assessing community needs and evaluating program effectiveness. Requirements

  • Knowledge of library policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Integrated Library Systems (ILS).
  • Knowledge of project management techniques.
  • Knowledge of grant writing and administration.
  • Knowledge of User Centered design theories.
  • Knowledge of assessment tools & techniques for library programs and outreach.
  • Knowledge of current trends in library programming and outreach for adults.
  • Knowledge of community engagement.
  • Ability to positively interact with a diverse clientele.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate library policies and procedures.
  • Ability to execute projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to use web-based software systems.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, or similar tools.
  • Ability to solve problems and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and customers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to model behavior that is consistent with our values of RESPECT.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working with adults of all ages in a public library setting.
  • A valid NC driver’s license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to provide transportation between job sites is required.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master of Library Science (MLS) degree is preferred.
  • Experience planning programs and outreach for adults preferred.
  • Experience supervising a team or department preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Model outstanding, knowledgeable customer service, being friendly, helpful, responsive, and engaged.

  • Coordinate, develop, and deploy an engaging array of adult programs and outreach.
  • Collaborate with other staff, partner organizations, and volunteers to facilitate and plan programs.
  • Continually explore new and innovative outreach partnerships to meet the needs of the local community.
  • Regularly assess programming and outreach effectiveness and quality with a goal of continual improvement.
  • Foster and maintain strong collaborative relationships with local partner agencies, library peers, and Town departments that serve adults.
  • Monitor trends and best practices in public library programming, outreach, and Reader’s Advisory services for adults.
  • Assist with shift scheduling, operations management, and staff supervision in the Adult Services Division.
  • Contribute to the hiring, training, and development of a friendly, flexible, customer-focused staff.
  • Contribute to the Library Management Team.
  • Collaborate with library administration and managers to achieve strategic goals.
  • Serve on Town-wide teams or initiatives.
  • Lead library projects and initiatives.
  • Complete other tasks as required.
