About The Position

The Deerfield Public Library is seeking a friendly, community-focused Adult Services Assistant to join our team. As our Adult Services Assistant, you will help create a welcoming, inclusive library experience for all visitors. Responsibilities include covering public service desk shifts, providing reader’s advisory and reference services, maintaining the collection, and helping patrons access library resources and technology.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED required
Excellent working knowledge of G Suite, e-reader technology, e-resource platforms including Overdrive, Hoopla, and Kanopy
Avid reader, viewer, and listener with a wide range of genre experience relevant to tasks and patron interactions
Ability to type and enter data into a computer accurately
Ability to quickly and accurately place items in alphabetical or numerical order

Nice To Haves

A bachelor’s degree related to the job responsibilities or LTA is preferred
Strong customer service experience preferred, particularly working at a service desk
Experience in a public library environment is highly desirable

Responsibilities

Provide excellent customer service to all patrons and staff in person and through telephone or online communication.
Carry out public desk duties, including providing exemplary reference, readers advisory, and e-resource assistance.
Maintain a high level of knowledge of popular materials including books and media, technologies and trends.
Assist with the maintenance of the library’s collection, including shelving, restocking displays, and other collection tasks as needed.
Assist the Adult Services Department with various projects and tasks related to the facilitation of programs and services.
Create and maintain displays, lists and other avenues to promote the collection, at the discretion of the department manager.
