About The Position

The Community Counselling Centre of Nipissing is a fully accredited, non-profit organization offering professional counselling and community programs to individuals, couples, and families. Our work is grounded in anti-oppression, equity, inclusiveness, and self-determination. We acknowledge systemic oppression and are committed to mitigating its effects and equalizing power imbalances in our community. Reporting to the Clinical Programs Manager, the Adult Protective Service Worker will provide advocacy, case management, and support services to adults with developmental disabilities living in the community. Be available to work one evening per week as needed.

Requirements

  • BA/BSW in Social Sciences or relevant college diploma
  • Ability to support individuals at various cognitive stages
  • Bilingual (French & English) preferred; unilingual candidates welcome
  • Supporting persons and/or families challenged by developmental disabilities
  • Knowledge of developmental services sector & person-directed planning
  • Knowledge of principles of anti-oppression, inclusion, and advocacy in justice, education, housing, and health
  • Familiarity with APSW Guidelines, Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act, Education Act, Landlord and Tenant Act, Mental Health Act, Consent and Capacity Act
  • Computer literacy, documentation, organizational skills
  • Ability to work with teams and external service providers
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Satisfactory drivers abstract
  • Ability to provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check as a condition of employment

Responsibilities

  • Provide advocacy, case management, and support services to adults with developmental disabilities living in the community.
