About The Position

The Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board (HNNCSB) is seeking a Full-Time Adult Mental Health Support Services Counselor to join their team. This role involves providing compassionate, person-centered care and supporting behavioral health recovery for adults facing mental health challenges in a collaborative environment. The position is based in Hampton and Newport News, Virginia. The Mental Health Regional Supervised Housing Program specifically supports adults with severe mental illness, including co-occurring substance use disorders, by offering a safe and structured living environment to enhance independence and reduce hospitalizations. Staff collaborate with individuals on psychiatric and substance use treatment, assist with benefits and applications, and connect them to vocational, educational, and psychosocial programs. Priority is given to adults from Region V ready for discharge from Eastern State Hospital or those whose needs can be met in the community.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Human Services (e.g., Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or related field)
Minimum one (1) year of experience providing behavioral health services to adults living with serious mental illness or emotional impairments
Must be registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a QMHP or obtain QMHP-Trainee status within 30 days of employment
Valid Virginia Driver's License
Strong communication, empathy, and problem-solving skills
Must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening test and employment reference checks.
