About The Position

The Adult Education Teacher is responsible for the instruction of designated adult general education content area(s)/course(s) within a part-time instructional position for an underage classroom on a high school campus. The role involves designing and implementing instruction, creating a positive educational climate, and managing student behavior. District expectations include demonstrating regular and predictable attendance, supporting the district's vision and mission, and maintaining professionalism. All employees are expected to engage in civility, respect, and professionalism, and to maintain the professional knowledge and skills necessary to perform their duties.

Requirements

  • Eligibility for Florida Temporary Certificate required.
  • Certifiable degree area such as math, science, English, etc.
  • Reads, analyzes, and interprets all kinds of documents.
  • Responds to inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies, or community.
  • Writes speeches and effectively presents to managers, the public, and school board.
  • Works with math concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry.
  • Applies concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Florida Professional Educator Certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and implements appropriate instruction of content area(s)/course(s) assigned in accordance with state standards, district curriculum, and students’ needs.
  • Creates a positive educational climate for students to learn in an atmosphere of respect and rapport.
  • Creates and delivers relevant and rigorous lessons that maximize student engagement and achievement.
  • Utilizes a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds in order to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Observes and evaluates student performance and mastery of standards, monitors student assessment data, and maintains student grades and attendance.
  • Manages student behavior in the classroom by utilizing effective classroom management strategies and invoking appropriate disciplinary procedures.
  • Communicates with parents and school/district personnel regarding student progress and encourages parental involvement.
  • Takes all responsible precautions to provide for the health and safety of students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records, inquiries, and data.
  • Maintains appropriate certifications and professional development hours as required.
  • Positively promotes adult programs to continuously develop and sustain student participation.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
