About The Position

This position is contingent upon funding and is not tenure eligible. The Adult Education Teacher will provide competent instruction and student guidance in the area of Adult Education, facilitate weekly orientation sessions for new students, and complete other program projects as assigned by the Director. The role adheres to the general faculty guidelines specified by Calhoun Community College Personnel Handbook, the Vice President of Academic Affairs, and the Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • A minimum of one (1) year teaching experience at an accredited institution is required.
  • Documented evidence in the proficiency of use of internet, e-mail, and computer software programs (e.g. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, etc.) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide competent classroom instruction in the area of Adult Education and evaluate the progress of students in all classes according to institutional, departmental, and individual criteria.
  • Facilitate weekly orientation/intake sessions for new students, which include AM and PM sessions, alternating weekly.
  • Administer assessment instruments, such as TABE®, to diagnose, evaluate, and place adult learners in the proper educational functioning levels.
  • Link instruction to the learner’s academic needs determined by the results of valid, reliable assessments.
  • Serve as a resource instructor to direct and guide students to completion of their non-traditional high school diploma in the most efficient manner possible.
  • Administer Lightcast® Career Interest Inventory Assessments.
  • Administer Northstar® Digital Literacy Assessments.
  • Assist with the DHR A-RESET partnership program.
  • Develop an understanding of MAPs (Mobilizing Alabama’s Pathways) and provide an introduction of MAPs to students during orientation sessions.
  • Administer WorkKeys for the Career Readiness Certificate.
  • Collect, maintain, and submit accurate class records including attendance, contact hours, and progress reports to appropriate offices.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of materials used in academic administration when requested.
  • Assist in the development of discipline-specific student learning outcome objectives.
  • Analyze and interpret data related to student learning and provide feedback to the institution and students for the purpose of improving and expanding student learning.
  • Participate in scheduled in-service activities, and other professional development activities related to adult education, earning a minimum of twelve (12) professional development hours annually.
  • Be prompt and punctual in reporting for work.
  • Maintain assigned office hours.
  • Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses, industries, and agencies.
  • Perform all duties with professionalism.
  • Provide advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the Adult Education program.
  • Serve on committees engaged in furthering the work of the institution when appointed or when elected.
  • Become familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog, Personnel Handbook, and ACCS Board Policy; and in accordance with the Adult Education State Plan and follow such policies and procedures.
  • Perform other appropriate professional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

  • Appropriate placement on ACCS Salary Schedule D-3: $31,289 – $52,194 (9 months)
  • An additional summer assignment may be available: $10,430 – $17,397 (3 months)
