About The Position

The Adult Education Teacher will help students learn subject matter and master skills that contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible learners. This involves establishing and communicating clear behavior and learning expectations, and consistently striving to improve performance to help students meet learning targets. The role requires providing frequent feedback to learners and stakeholders on progress towards goals to ensure student success. This is a part-time position with specific working hours and is contingent upon grant funding. It does not include a benefits package.

Requirements

Must meet Arkansas certification requirements.
Demonstrates a willingness to try new teaching and assessment strategies that would benefit all adult students.
Evidence of ability to work with diverse, at risk adult student populations.
Evidence of a strong commitment to quality desegregated education.
Ability to articulate student progress clearly to all stakeholders.
Evidence of the ability to design and implement hands-on activities and thematic units in all content areas.
Evidence of ability to teach GED preparation and vocational math curriculum.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, go up and down stairs, operate foot and hand controls, use a telephone and write.
Occasionally must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds.
Requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and/or objects, and providing oral information.
Ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year.

Responsibilities

Meets and instructs assigned classes in the location and at the time designated.
Plans a program of GED preparation study that includes vocational math that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the adult students.
Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the adult students.
Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of the coordinator.
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with those goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
Employs a variety of instructional techniques, consistent with the physical limitations of the site provided and the needs and capabilities of the students.
Assesses the accomplishments of students and provides progress reports.
Integrates mathematics with other content areas by illustrating mathematical applications relevant to construction.
Supports the vision and mission of the Adult Education Center by working collaboratively with the administration and ALL staff to create a positive, safe and learner-centered environment.
Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or procedures governing student life, conduct, wellness, and academic mastery.
Guides the learning process toward the achievements of curriculum goals by establishing and communicating clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects; integrates skills into units and learning centers in the classroom.
Serves as a model classroom for the building and District; allows administrators, teachers, parents and other stakeholders to observe in the classroom as requested; provides technical assistance, shares information and resources with other teachers and staff.
Monitors individual and/or group activities to prevent accidents and promote social skills; takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, material and facilities.
Meets and instructs assigned class in the location and at the times designated; works collaboratively with content and grade-level team members; attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required; makes commitment to time necessary for participating in District/school sponsored staff development; strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
Performs other duties as may be assigned.
