About The Position

Smithfield is seeking an ADU Utility 1 to join their team. This role involves assisting in various site areas, including ADU sanitation, transload operations, groundskeeping, and emergency animal removal. The employee will operate farm equipment such as mowers, tractors, and yard jockey trucks, along with other tasks to maintain an ADU facility. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to do hard physical labor.
  • Strong commitment to teamwork.
  • Ability to follow instructions and deal with standardized situations.
  • Weekend, evening, and holiday work required as needed.
  • Willingness to be on call when needed.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate forklift and standard farm/utility equipment such as but not limited to bobcat, tractor, lawnmower, weed eater etc.
  • Operate high pressure water sprayer.
  • Must hold a current NC Driver’s License.
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team-oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
  • Must be able to walk an average of 2 – 4 miles per day, occasionally up to 5 or 6.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a limited basis.
  • Must be able to occasionally work in situations two feet above the floor in a leaned-over or squatted position.
  • Must be able to operate a high-pressure washing system.
  • Must be able to tolerate blood, animal dander, manure, dust, odors, and frequently noisy conditions.

  • Forklift, bobcat, tractor preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in many areas within the site, including ADU sanitation, transload, and groundskeeping.
  • Assist with emergency animal removal as needed.
  • Operate mowers, tractors, yard jockey trucks, and other farm equipment as directed.
  • Perform tasks suited for maintaining an ADU facility.
  • Work in all phases of ADU Transload, including studying incoming load patterns and volumes for estimating load counts.
  • Arrange and oversee loading and unloading of trailers and trucks.
  • Generate schedules for departing loads to meet shipping schedules.
  • Prepare all paperwork for incoming and outgoing loads and complete paperwork upon time of receipt.
  • Maintain biosecurity by cleaning and sanitizing all ADU vehicles and equipment using high volume/high pressure spraying equipment within scheduled turnaround times.
  • Perform interior detailing and cleaning of all ADU vehicles and equipment as needed or requested.
  • Keep the truck wash area clean and free of safety hazards.
  • Prepare and maintain sanitation service records.
  • Assemble ADU containers as needed and load containers for onsite pick up customers using a forklift.
  • Assist in emergency spill cleanups with mortality removal.
  • Assist with grounds and facility upkeep by cutting grass, taking out trash, and cleaning inside and outside the facility when required.
  • Follow the safety requirements of the Smithfield Injury Prevention System (SIPS).
  • Abide by all company policies, procedures, and guidelines as directed.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to change plans according to the direction of leadership.
  • Work as a team player by accomplishing daily department work requirements and goals.
  • Be responsible for being in compliance with all environmental laws and procedures.
  • Report all environmental issues immediately to their supervisor.
  • Read and understand the company’s emergency notification process and how it applies to their specific worksite.
