This position will work at both our Fairport and Greece locations. The role involves conducting adoption consultations, providing exceptional customer service to guests inquiring about adoptions, and answering questions about animals and the adoption process. The counselor is responsible for providing compassionate care to all animals in the shelter, ensuring accuracy of recorded information, and processing paperwork for adoptions. This includes exercising patience and tact with guests in crisis, performing adoption follow-up counseling, and conducting screened adoptions for animals with specific medical or behavioral needs. The position requires maintaining knowledge of different animal species to troubleshoot common problems in adoptive homes, as well as performing overall animal maintenance such as providing food and water, and cleaning cages, kennels, and litter boxes. Maintaining sanitary conditions for animals and work areas is crucial. Responsibilities must be carried out in accordance with company policies and applicable state/federal laws, observing all safety rules and regulations.
