About The Position

Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI), a leading not-for-profit organization, is seeking a full-time Adoption Preservation Support Counselor. This role involves providing comprehensive therapeutic services to adopted children and their families, aligning with assessments, permanency plans, and identified needs. Services must adhere to state mandates, COA standards, LSSI policies, and program plans.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in counseling or social work from a CSWE-accredited program or a master’s degree in a related field.
  • Background check clearance (criminal and CANTS).
  • Licensed as a LCSW, LCPC, LMFT, or LSW (or supervised by a licensed employee with the goal of obtaining licensure within two years).
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and comprehensibly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of DSM 5/ICD-10 and their applications (under supervision if not licensed).
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to others and influence people.
  • Excellent organization, presentation, and PC/computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and related software.
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing for the state of residency.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Valid IL statutory minimum liability insurance coverage (bodily injury and property damage).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience is preferred but not required.
  • New graduates with a Master of Social Work (MSW) are encouraged to apply.
  • Three (3) or more years post-graduate experience working as a therapist preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive assessment of client’s therapeutic needs.
  • Develop individualized treatment plan engaging children, families, and Child Welfare Specialist staff, considering the child welfare system involvement, safety/risk concerns, and permanency/treatment plans.
  • Provide direct counseling and therapeutic services to individuals, families, and groups in various settings (home, office, community) based on client needs and program requirements.
  • Complete and submit all reports, documentation, and billing accurately and timely as required by LSSI and funding sources, including written progress reports for policies/procedures and/or juvenile court.
  • Participate in the supervisory process for guidance, direction, support, and approval of decision-making, assessment, treatment planning, and intervention.
  • Provide DSM 5/ICD-10 diagnosis for assigned clients.
  • Demonstrate professional, positive behavior and carry out responsibilities with integrity, treating clients, families, other LSSI workforce members, and collaborative organizations/individuals with dignity, respect, honesty, and fairness.
