About The Position

The main purpose of this position is to provide full-performance level social work services to patients in a state psychiatric hospital including pre-admission screening, admission assessments and interventions. This position involves working with multidisciplinary treatment teams, families, community psychiatric service providers, managed care systems, attorneys, judges, forensic staff as well as Springfield Hospital Center Administration and the Maryland Department of Health. Under the managerial supervision of the Director of Admissions, this position screens patients for admission, obtains authorization for treatment, admits patients to the hospital, coordinates transfer of patients from the Admissions area to a designated unit and carries out individual and family therapeutic interventions. This position supports the mission of the organization through active participation in clinical efforts to provide treatment in a recovery-oriented environment. The foundation of a recovery-oriented environment is respect and a commitment to safety in the least restrictive manner possible. This position is considered an Essential Emergency Employee.

Requirements

  • Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners under the licensing requirements for Social Workers.
  • Experience: Two years of experience rendering clinical social work services in a health care or treatment setting subsequent to the receipt of an approved Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited college or university.
  • Candidates must be licensed as a Certified Social Worker or Certified Social Worker, Clinical by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment to a position in State service.
  • Candidates appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess an appropriate operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
