About The Position

Austin Oaks Hospital is seeking an Admissions Registered Nurse (RN) for the Weekend Nights shift (7p-7a). This role is crucial for managing patient referrals and admissions, ensuring accurate documentation, and providing initial patient assessments. The Admissions RN will assess patients' psychiatric and medical status, document all inquiries and admissions accurately in the computer system, and ensure that nursing and clinical staff are informed of the patient's condition and history. The position also involves assessing and intervening in crisis situations, providing leadership to mental health technicians, contributing to the interdisciplinary treatment plan, and administering prescribed medications and medical treatments.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Licensed by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas (or licensed in a compact state).
  • CPR and hospital de-escalation certifications (can be obtained during orientation).
  • Must be able to complete new hire requirements such as a nationwide background check and pre-employment drug screen.
  • State and Federal Office of the Inspector General check.

Nice To Haves

  • One-year psychiatric nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to incoming calls to the hospital to accommodate coordination for referrals/admissions.
  • Provide assessment of patients' psychiatric and medical status.
  • Ensure all inquiries, referrals, and admissions are documented accurately in the computer system.
  • Document notes regarding referrals and upcoming admissions on proper forms.
  • Ensure all referral patient medical record information is completed.
  • Ensure nursing and clinical staff are adequately apprised of the patient's condition/history.
  • Ensure referral material is copied/distributed and prepared in unit charts as required.
  • Assess, direct, and intervene in crisis situations.
  • Provide leadership and direction to mental health technicians.
  • Contribute to treatment plan as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Administer medication and medical treatment as prescribed by Physician.
