About The Position

Avenues Recovery is seeking an Admissions Review Specialist to join our Corporate Admissions team. This role is responsible for reviewing clinical referrals for individuals seeking substance use treatment, assessing medical and behavioral health documentation, and determining the appropriate level of care. The Admissions Review Specialist works closely with Admissions Coordinators, facility clinical teams, and referral sources to ensure timely, accurate clinical decision-making and a seamless admissions process. This position is ideal for a clinically knowledgeable professional who enjoys collaborating across teams, making sound clinical judgments, and contributing to quality patient care from the very first point of contact.

Requirements

  • Experience reviewing clinical documentation and medical records required.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, behavioral health diagnoses, substance use disorders, and clinical presentation.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree preferred; Associate's degree with relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Experience working in substance use disorder treatment strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with ASAM Criteria preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review referral documentation and clinical records to determine appropriate level of care.
  • Collaborate with Admissions Coordinators to support the admissions process and answer clinical questions.
  • Respond promptly to referral sources regarding clinical documentation and admission status.
  • Assist in reviewing medical, psychiatric, and substance use history for incoming referrals.
  • Work closely with facility leadership, nursing, and clinical teams to facilitate appropriate admissions.
  • Participate in regular meetings with facility clinical and medical leadership.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of ASAM Criteria and evidence-based treatment recommendations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation while maintaining compliance with company standards and applicable regulations.
