About The Position

As an Admissions Officer I, you will be part of the Duke Law admissions team that recruits prospective students and reviews applications for admission. Admissions Officers serve as ambassadors for Duke Law School, representing the institution to prospective students and partners while supporting the admissions process from inquiry through evaluation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the college experience and student life.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage effectively with prospective students, applicants, and colleagues.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to learn about Duke Law School’s academic programs, culture, and admissions processes.
  • Sound judgment and attention to detail when evaluating applications and making admissions recommendations.
  • Comfort conducting virtual interactions, including online information sessions and scholarship interviews.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively to represent Duke Law School at recruitment events.
  • Interest or exposure to legal study, legal practice, or the role of lawyers in a democratic society.

Responsibilities

  • Counsel prospective students, applicants, and others seeking information on admissions standards, academic programs, student life, and career opportunities at Duke Law School.
  • Respond to admissions inquiries via email and telephone.
  • Travel extensively to represent Duke Law School at college law fairs and Law School Forums, delivering effective and compelling presentations about the Law School.
  • Host online information sessions for applicants, providing an overview of Duke Law School and the application process and responding to attendee questions.
  • Conduct online scholarship interviews of admitted students and submit written evaluations using a standard rubric.
  • Analyze the qualifications of prospective students using established law school admissions standards, guidelines, and criteria; review evaluations with a supervisor and submit recommendations regarding applicant admissibility.
  • Assist and collaborate with other staff members on special projects, including coordinating activities designed to accomplish established objectives, such as the annual on‑campus program for admitted students.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described.
