About The Position

This role involves representing Norfolk State University at various recruitment events, including college fairs and high school visits, both in-state and out-of-state. The Admissions Counselor will develop relationships with key contacts, evaluate program effectiveness, and provide recommendations. The position also entails representing the Office of Admissions at special events, assisting in the development and implementation of strategies to increase student visits and yield, and supporting leadership with event coordination. Key responsibilities include communicating with applicants regarding missing documents, providing admissions presentations, participating in electronic marketing communications, and ensuring timely responses to emails and voicemails. The counselor will accurately review undergraduate admission applications, evaluate applicant credentials, and update student data in the Colleague system.

Requirements

  • Experience using technology in a higher education setting, preferably in admissions.
  • Knowledge of available technology resources and employing technology (CRM, social media, website) in a recruitment/communication plan.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of application/evaluation processing operations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of student administration systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of recruitment and territory management.
  • Knowledge and understanding of higher education marketing.
  • Proficiency in a variety of computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite).

  • Experience with Colleague and Informer preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the university at college fairs, high school visits, and other community engagements.
  • Follow-up visits with appropriate correspondence/contact with counselors and students.
  • Develop relationships with key contacts in assigned territory, including alumni recruiters.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness and provide recommendations for future programming.
  • Represents the Office of Admissions at special events, on and off campus, including but not limited to Open House, NSU Round-Up, School Counselor events and etc.
  • Assists in developing and implementing strategies and programming, particularly for bringing more students to visit campus throughout the year, and for increasing yield in general.
  • Support leadership by assisting with coordination and implementation of events.
  • Communicate with applicants who need to submit additional documents or updated credentials.
  • Provide admissions presentations to campus visitors.
  • Participate in other electronic marketing communications as needed.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of recruitment activities centered on electronic communications, and mobile and social networks.
  • Ensures responses are provided to e-mails and voicemails within 48 business hours of receipt.
  • Represent the University by providing accurate and detailed information to prospective students, their families and school counselors throughout the country.
  • Accurately review undergraduate admission applications and evaluate applicant credentials to determine admissibility to the university based on established criteria for admission.
  • Update Colleague with student data, entering admissions decisions and comments as needed.
