About The Position

The Admissions Counselor is responsible for supporting all aspects of the admissions process, student recruiting, and new student orientation. This role involves traveling primarily within our four-county service region (Kanawha, Fayette, Putnam, Clay) to visit high schools and attend college fairs, providing information to prospective students to encourage applications. Additional duties include assisting in recruitment efforts and public relations campaigns, managing recruitment paperwork and travel arrangements, reviewing and processing applicant files, and ensuring file completeness. The Admissions Counselor acts as a liaison between the Admissions Office, academic departments, and public school counselors, assist in developing and evaluating recruitment strategies, and contribute to marketing efforts and data reporting. The role requires critical human relations skills to build effective relationships with faculty, staff, students, and community members and involves some flexibility in prioritizing and organizing work. This is a non-exempt, hourly position. Actual offer will be commensurate with education and experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Two years of experience in college student services
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, verbal, and written communication skills
  • High motivation with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within the admissions team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and technology
  • Strong organizational skills

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with high school personnel and other relevant organizations; attend college fairs and visit high schools.
  • Plan and execute recruitment activities, including college fairs, public school college days, and open house events; conduct group presentations and campus tours.
  • Counsel prospective students and parents about the admissions process; provide follow-up correspondence via meetings, email, phone, and mail.
  • Complete paperwork for recruitment trips, manage travel arrangements, review and process applicant files, and ensure file completeness.
  • Act as a liaison between Admissions Office, academic departments, and public school counselors; assist in developing and evaluating recruitment plans.
  • Compose and design admissions correspondence and recruitment materials; assist in data collection and reporting.
  • Stay updated on application and admission requirements; assist in planning and preparing new student orientations; participate in office recruitment activities.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
