Assists and provides guidance to prospective Job Corps enrollees by determining basic eligibility, conducting screening, and providing career-based counseling. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or closely related field or Associate’s degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or closely related field, and 2 years’ related experience. Experience may include successful Job Corps outreach and admissions experience or successful outreach and admissions experience with other youth development programs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook at an intermediate level.
  • Successfully pass background check and drug test required on the contract.
  • Current, valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of correspondence, student applications, and required reports. Maintain confidentiality of student records.
  • Participate in the formulation and implementation of the outreach plan.
  • Maintain ongoing outreach to agencies, schools, community programs and military recruiters by conducting presentations to individuals, student groups, communities, agencies, schools, and potential employers to foster interest in Job Corps and to generate referrals to the Job Corps program.
  • Screen qualified youth for entry into Job Corps according to procedures and criteria. Obtain additional information necessary to evaluate eligibility and suitability; complete application accurately, and when necessary, submit to the San Francisco Regional Office for approval.
  • Notify applicants of acceptance (disapproval) and assignment. Prepare students for arrival to Job Corps.
  • Assist the Outreach Coordinator with hosting live Center tours to the public.
  • Assist the Outreach Coordinator with hosting on-line Center tours to the public.
  • Conduct three necessary interviews with each applicant.
  • Provide each applicant with trade-specific labor market information.
  • Assist with community outreach events by hosting a Job Corps table, making presentations, etc.
  • Maintain a resource file for referral purposes.
  • Refer ineligible and non-suitable applicants to the OA/CTS Manager for final declination.
  • Establish partnerships with communities to ensure that accurate information about Job Corps is delivered to interested individuals.
  • Communicate basic requirements of Job Corps eligibility to urban and rural youth, youth influencers (parents, elders, teachers, counselors, etc.), and potential future employers.
  • Participate in weekly File Review meetings with the Center Director, Wellness Director, and Records Supervisor.
  • Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices.
  • Cultivate and maintain a climate on Center, which is free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.
  • Promote student attainment of career success standards through modeling appropriate skills, mentoring students, monitoring skill acquisition and intervening when inappropriate behavior is observed.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform all other duties as requested.
  • Dealing with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
  • Having the ability to work under pressure as well as ensuring timely completion and accuracy of all departmental work.
  • The proper use of tools and/or equipment commonly used in an office/clerical environment.
  • Completing all mandated training requirements per government and company directives.
  • Adherence to established company safety policies and good industrial and office safety practices.
  • Compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures and Personnel policies and procedures.
