The Admissions Counselor is responsible for facilitating admissions, clinical intake assessments, and utilization review processes to assure continuity for the most appropriate level of care for patients and their benefit/resource utilization. This role involves responding to inquiries, performing benefit eligibility checks, collaborating with medical and psychiatric personnel, coordinating admissions, maintaining knowledge of milieu management, and communicating projected admissions. The counselor will also ensure clinical information is received prior to admission, conduct pre-admission assessments, prepare medical record documentation for payor authorization, complete initial pre-authorization for treatment, admit patients to the registration and accounting system, and complete all admission and consent forms. A positive, empathetic, and professional attitude is essential, along with a focus on patient safety and customer service. The role also includes coordinating care for patients not being admitted and conducting safety checks.
