Requirements

  • Over 6 months’ experience as office receptionist.
  • Medical skills/ experience may substitute for office experience.
  • Must be able to type/keyboard 60 wpm, use a ten key calculator by touch.
  • Must have valid WA State Drivers license.
  • Possesses knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement principles and supports the hospital's philosophy of performance improvement.
  • Participates in Quality Action Teams using the F.A.D.E. process.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry-out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of all time sequencing for scheduling exams
  • Ability to read policies, procedures, guidelines, safety manuals, administrative manuals, and business correspondence.

Nice To Haves

  • HS Diploma or GED Preferred.
  • Experience with CPT, ICD10 coding and medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the collection and preparation of information required for patient registration at Island Hospital.
  • Insures authorization for surgical and inpatient admissions is obtained.
  • Communicate with patients regarding estimated charges and set up appropriate payment plans.
  • Assists physician offices as needed to obtain necessary billing information.
  • Obtains specific information from patients, such as age, insurance coverage, and/or financial information required.
  • Obtains necessary signatures on proper forms, including Advanced Beneficiary Notices (ABN).
  • Gives general information about outpatient care and answers telephones.
  • Order Diagnostic tests and exams into the Meditech system, including entering diagnosis/ICD10 code and obtaining signed ABN’s when necessary.
  • Patient financial clearance including assisting patients through the WA Health Plan Finder for insurance or state assistance.
  • Assists patients, as needed, to initiate the Charity Care request process, internal banking options and payment arrangements.
  • Receive scheduled appointments for pre-surgical requirements/ scheduled needed appointments.
  • Obtain referrals/authorization for upcoming procedures, verify insurance coverage’s, prepare and send patients estimate letters, phone quotes.
  • Follows up on sent estimates, collects payment.
  • Follow through with denial of insurance payments w/Patient Accounts, Care Management and insurance companies.
  • Correct patient accounts, reports, to be ready for proper billing.
  • Work directly with physicians’ offices to prepare and obtain essential information to assist in the financial clearance & billing processes.
  • Research insurance coverage option for physicians and billing needs.
  • Sends Inpatient Notification and Clinical Documentation to required payors.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to interact positively with Administration, Directors, Managers, Supervisors, peers, co-workers, subordinates, patients and visitors.
  • Must meet regular attendance standards and must stay at or below unscheduled absence levels.
  • Must maintain WA Health Plan Finder in Person Assister/Navigator certification annually.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and can identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific.
