About The Position

The Office of Admissions is a unit within the Division of Student Services & Enrollment Management, comprising over 50 staff dedicated to recruiting prospective undergraduates and making admission decisions. This specific role is part of the recruitment & outreach team, which serves as the initial point of contact for thousands of students annually interested in the University of Oregon. The team is committed to empowering students and their families throughout the college preparation, search, and choice process, regardless of their final enrollment decision. As the University expands its national and international presence, this position is being added to enhance these recruitment efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from the UO awarded within the last two years or 30 days of hire.
  • Prior experience representing the UO as a current student (Ambassador, Student Orientation Staff, etc.) or as a student leader in a paid or unpaid role.
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Ease in using technology for communication, record keeping, and management of data.
  • Ability to function independently and self-motivate while working remotely.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and effective manner with students, alumni, diverse families, administrators, and faculty.
  • Ability to work and communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to relate with prospective students via positive personal experiences from the student and campus community angles.
  • This position requires an extensive amount of travel, often including locations that are not serviced by public transportation.
  • This position must be able to work irregular hours and travel extensively on nights and weekends.
  • This position will require a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain UO Driver Certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with multicultural recruitment or outreach programming.
  • Interest in longer-term connections to admissions or other aspects of student affairs and enrollment management, whether as a profession or for graduate study.
  • Familiarity with the UO’s undergraduate student recruitment efforts.
  • Proficiency or fluency in another language, such as Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Represent the University of Oregon (UO) to prospective students, their families, and school/community contacts.
  • Develop and implement recruiting initiatives to meet application and enrollment goals.
  • Conduct a holistic review of freshman applications for assigned territories.
  • Plan recruitment strategies, including high school visits and individual meetings.
  • Participate in extensive training on the UO, admissions counseling, application review, and territory management.
  • Serve as a front-line service provider for student admission counseling.
  • Undertake recruitment travel and manage assigned geographic areas.
  • Exercise independent judgment and autonomy in work planning, university representation, student/family counseling, and application of university admission policy.
  • Perform scholarship review and other duties as assigned.
