The Admissions Counselor Acute is responsible for facilitating admissions, clinical intake assessments, and utilization review processes to ensure continuity of care at the most appropriate level for patients, while also managing benefit/resource utilization. This role involves responding to inquiries, performing benefit eligibility checks, collaborating with medical and psychiatric personnel, and coordinating admissions and transfers. The counselor must maintain knowledge of milieu management, communicate projected admissions, and ensure all necessary clinical information is received prior to admission. They will also conduct pre-admission assessments, consult with physicians, and prepare medical record documentation for payor authorization. The role includes completing initial pre-authorization for treatment and admission, admitting patients into the system, and completing admission forms. A positive, empathetic, and professional attitude is crucial, along with the ability to resolve complaints and prioritize patient safety. The counselor will also coordinate care for patients not being admitted and ensure they receive appropriate follow-up. Conducting safety checks and ensuring supervision at 15-minute intervals or as per individualized guidelines is also a responsibility. Other functions and tasks as assigned are also part of the role.
