Job Summary: Plans, organizes, coordinates and evaluates the admissions process. Maintains responsibility for screening, evaluating, processing and coordinating all admissions to the department unit. Fosters relationships with referral agencies, hospitals and physicians, actively engaging in marketing activities. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

Requirements

  • Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
  • Registered Nurse (RN) or licensed allied health professional (Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech Pathologist, or Clinical Social Worker): Required
  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Physical Therapist (PT) or Occupational Therapist (OT) or American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) or Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) or Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW): Required
  • Hospital Fire and Life Safety (HLFS): Required

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred
  • Five years' healthcare compliance experience: Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assigns preliminary Functional Independence Measure (FIM) scores (motor & cognitive), Case Mix Group (CMG), target Length of Stay (LOS) and expected reimbursement for Medicare patients. Works on activities of a diverse scope requiring minimal interpretation of policies and guidelines.
  • Suggests the Rehabilitation Impairment Category (RIC), etiological diagnosis, secondary and related diagnosis, and any comorbidities present upon referral based on medical history, and reviews with Medical Director. Makes recommendations on new processes, tools and services. Supports and contributes to the development of new products, services or techniques.
  • Ensures a viable discharge plan, expectation of significant practical improvement, established and realistic rehabilitation goals, and that the patient is medically stable/able to participate in an intensive rehabilitation program. Ensures prior authorization, verification of benefits and insurance coverage. Identifies payer expectations.
  • Performs pre-admission screening, completes pre-admission screening forms and conducts onsite evaluations, as needed, on patients referred for acute inpatient rehabilitation. Solves escalated operational problems and technical issues. Prioritizes own weekly schedule and guides others in the completion of tasks within clearly defined schedules as set by leadership.
  • Maintains current knowledge of regulatory and reimbursement criteria as related to patient admissions and program development. Assists with orienting and providing on-the-job skills training to others.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
