About The Position

Under the supervision of the Visitor and Member Engagement Manager, the PlayHouse Admissions and Retail Attendant will be responsible for opening and closing Welcome Desk computer systems, performing cashier duties, promoting and selling admissions, memberships, and programs. This role also involves cleaning and maintaining the front desk area, assisting with exhibition cleaning, and interacting with museum visitors by answering questions about programs and ticket options. The attendant will engage with various groups including privately booked groups, school groups, and birthday parties, ensuring an excellent experience for all. Additional duties include light clerical work such as answering phones, data entry, checking in guests for workshops, managing the lost and found, attending staff meetings, reporting visitor feedback, and selling/stocking museum shop merchandise. The position requires adherence to the museum's core values and the Park District's safety program.

Requirements

  • High school degree/GED required.
  • Requires a minimum of one year experience in a customer service role, ideally a museum or other visitor attraction setting.
  • Must have excellent customer service, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Must have experience or interest in working with children and families in a highly diverse informal education setting.
  • Practical understanding of ages and stages of child development.
  • Knowledge of computers and phones as needed for office work, including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to maintain focus and professional demeanor in a highly demanding atmosphere.
  • Ability to contribute to an atmosphere of teamwork and positive energy among staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with others in person and over the phone.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with a minimal degree of supervisory oversight.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
  • Ability to be professional, respectful, accountable, innovative, to follow safety procedures, and be equitable to both internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Open and close Welcome Desk computer systems according to defined procedures.
  • Perform cashier duties including handling cash, check, and charge transactions.
  • Promote and sell PlayHouse Children’s Museum admissions, memberships, and programs.
  • Clean and maintain an organized and well-stocked front desk area and assist in exhibition cleaning and organizing on a daily basis.
  • Perform spot cleaning in other areas of the museum as needed.
  • Interact with museum visitors by answering questions about the Peoria PlayHouse Museum, Peoria Zoo, and Luthy Botanical Gardens programs and ticket options.
  • Interact with the general public and privately booked groups, school groups, and birthday parties and ensure an excellent experience for all visitors.
  • Perform light clerical work: answering and directing phone calls, data entry, other duties as assigned.
  • Check in and direct guests for museum workshops and programs.
  • Manage lost and found area.
  • Attend all staff meeting and trainings as required.
  • Report all visitor comments, complaints, and trends to Operations Manager.
  • Sell and stock museum shop merchandise.
  • Ensure shop items are displayed in an organized and appealing manner.
  • Notify supervisor when stock inventory is low.
  • Exhibit support and belief in Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum Core Values.
  • Follow and support all aspects of the Park District’s safety program.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
