About The Position

The Student Recruitment & Community Outreach Specialist is responsible for identifying, engaging, and enrolling prospective participants into WTA's workforce training programs while building and maintaining strong relationships across the Tucson community. This role conducts both student recruitment and outreach to community partners, with a focus on underserved populations. The position requires high energy, strong interpersonal skills, and the drive to connect people with training opportunities that lead to long-term employment.

Requirements

  • High energy, strong drive, and enthusiasm for community-focused work.
  • Experience in recruitment, outreach, social services, workforce development, veterans' services, community organizing, or similar roles.
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and use CRM or data‑tracking systems.
  • Comfortable working independently in the community.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Demonstrated experience with grant-funded workforce or social service programs and adherence to program guidelines.
  • Understanding basic marketing and outreach principles, including audience targeting, messaging, and promotion strategies.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in outreach, recruitment, community engagement, social services, or related fields.
  • Required experience working with grant-funded programs, including familiarity with eligibility requirements, documentation, compliance, and reporting processes.
  • Demonstrated experience working with underserved populations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the grant lifecycle, including participant screening, data collection, and outcome tracking for federally or state-funded programs.
  • Proven track record of meeting recruitment or engagement targets.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional education or certifications in related fields (e.g., higher education, business, or communications) is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for prospective students through phone, email, in-person meetings, and community outreach.
  • Provide clear information on WTA training programs, admissions requirements, and onboarding procedures.
  • Build relationships with prospective students and community members to encourage engagement and enrollment.
  • Conduct proactive recruitment at job fairs, shelters, veteran service organizations, workforce events, and community locations.
  • Deliver presentations about WTA programs at partner agencies, schools, community meetings, and outreach events.
  • Screen potential participants for eligibility for grant-funded programs such as HVRP and CDBG-supported training.
  • Maintain accurate records of all recruitment activities, interactions, and student progress within approved data systems or CRMs.
  • Collaborate closely with staff to ensure a smooth transition from recruitment to enrollment and training.
  • Assist with the development of outreach materials including flyers, program information sheets, and digital content.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with partners to strengthen collaboration and referral pipelines.
  • Monitor participant progress as needed for grant reporting and follow-up requirements.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, ensuring all prospective students and partners have a positive, informative experience.
  • Continually assess recruitment and outreach processes and recommend improvements.
