About The Position

Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC), a multi-campus institution within the State University of New York (SUNY) system, is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and caring Admissions and Financial Aid Counselor. This role is crucial for supporting the SUNY Reconnect program and assisting prospective students and their families through the admissions and financial aid processes. The college is committed to providing educational access and fostering lifelong learning for a diverse student population.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in post-secondary admissions or related Student Services position.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with administrators, faculty, parents, students, and high school counselors.
  • Unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish-speaking ability is preferred.
  • Experience with the SUNY Reconnect Program.

Responsibilities

  • Making admissions and financial aid presentations to potential students and their families.
  • Hosting financial aid workshops for potential students and their families.
  • Attending admission-related events to provide financial aid assistance/guidance.
  • Meeting with prospective students and their families who visit the Admissions’ or Financial Aid Office.
  • Administering appropriate admission decisions based on applicant’s file.
  • Communicating regarding incomplete applications in Financial Aid (FAFSA/TAP) and Admissions (Application for Admissions).
  • Proactively communicating with admitted and packaged students to confirm their matriculation.
  • Reviewing and evaluating applicant materials, including financial aid, while entering data into the SIS system.
  • Managing communication flow with students who have been offered financial aid awards throughout the academic year.
  • Meeting with and speaking by phone or videoconferencing to potential and current applicants, explaining the admissions and financial aid processes.
  • Providing advice to constituents on documentation needed to complete admissions and aid/scholarship applications.
  • Assisting both the Offices of Admissions and Financial Aid (cross-trained).
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
