About The Position

Facilitating Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings for students receiving special education services within the district. This role requires collaboration with campus staff and diagnosticians to develop and review Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs), ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. The facilitator will also assist in determining student needs, strategies, and program placements, while maintaining accurate and confidential records.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field
  • Current & continued enrollment in a diagnostician or LSSP Program (Required)
  • Basic knowledge of Special Education is required
  • Understanding of the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) processes
  • Understanding of all documents related to an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP)
  • 3-5 years teaching experience (in a Special Education setting preferably)
  • Must complete program within two years (if enrolled in an LSSP program, requirement differs based on the internship requirement with the LSSP programs)
  • Must remain enrolled in a diagnostician or LSSP program to remain eligible for this position.
  • Must meet with the department HR representative to provide enrollment verification regularly.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate all Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings through the collaborative effort with the campus staff and diagnostician.
  • Assist the diagnostician in planning and developing individual educational plans based on individual strengths and weaknesses according to local guidelines and current state-federal regulations.
  • Assist the diagnostician in determining dismissal when service is no longer needed.
  • Assist the diagnostician in determining skills to be mastered by the student.
  • Assist the diagnostician in determining strategies, techniques and classroom management to be employed by the teacher.
  • Assist the diagnostician in conferring with special education teacher, or other school personnel and examine other relevant data.
  • Assist the diagnostician in determining if IEP is meeting the best instructional needs of the student.
  • Assist the diagnostician in determining if the IEP requires additional information.
  • Maintain confidential eligibility records accurately and within timelines.
  • Provide consultation to regular classroom teacher.
  • Serve as a member of, and facilitator of, the Annual Review Committee for reviewing progress of each individual student.
  • Assist the diagnostician in recommending continuation in a specific program for the following school year.
  • Assist the diagnostician in recommending a change in categorical placement for the following school year.
  • Ensure that the legal files contain required documentation for monitoring and any other court requested purposes.
  • Disseminate information regarding current laws and court cases that change special education practices (to multidisciplinary team members).
  • Stay current on all federal and state and local Special Education Guidelines.
  • Work with ECISD attorney in preparation for ARD meetings and other legal proceedings including advocacy groups and/or other legal representatives.
  • Assist the diagnostician in determining the educational level at which the student can function.
  • Maintain records for purpose of Medicaid reimbursement.
  • Coordinate services with outside agencies.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with teaching staff, counselors and administrators.
  • Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of Special Education.
