About The Position

The Office of Admission at Drake University is seeking a dynamic individual to join their team as an Admission Counselor. This role involves managing an assigned recruitment territory and contributing to the university's student recruitment and enrollment objectives. The Admission Counselor will represent Drake University to various constituents, including prospective students and their families, and school counselors. The position requires regular travel within the assigned recruitment territory to attend college fairs, visit high schools, and meet individually with prospective students. The successful candidate will work with students throughout the entire recruitment process, from inquiry to matriculation, and should possess outstanding communication skills, a talent for connecting and building relationships, keen attention to detail, a positive attitude, and a drive to meet established goals.

Requirements

  • Has obtained a Bachelor's Degree
  • Has a current driver's license and the ability to be insured by the university's insurance carrier

Nice To Haves

  • Outstanding communication skills, especially in regard to writing and presentations
  • Experience working in admissions or higher education valued but not required
  • Experience working in recruitment or other relationship-based positions valued but not required

Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned recruitment territory to achieve enrollment goals, including recruitment travel in territory, building relationships with various constituencies in the territory, and report generation.
  • Assist in the development, promotion, and execution of a variety of admission recruitment events and activities, both in-person and virtually.
  • Participate in the evaluation of applications from their territory.
  • Manage communication within assigned recruitment territory, including the creation of messaging, receipt and response to phone calls, emails, social media, and other information requests.
  • Meet with prospective students and families during visits to Drake University, in either individual or group settings.
  • Assist in the development of and participate in activities related to public relations and recruitment of prospective students.
  • Provide an evaluation of admission/marketing plans, policies and strategies.
  • Create standard and ad-hoc reports and queries from admission/registration databases.
  • Use data to make informed decisions about territory.
  • Serve as a key member of the Admissions team in supporting its commitment to Drake’s mission and core values.
  • Provide excellent customer service and support to current and prospective students.
  • Help plan and execute Admission Office events, strategies, trainings, and initiatives.
  • Serve on standing and ad hoc committees as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
