About The Position

The Administrator of Public Safety provides supervision and guidance for department heads and employees in assigned areas, acting as a liaison between other county offices and the County Judge. This role is instrumental in policy making and implementation, overseeing projects and actions that involve significant county tax dollars. The incumbent is responsible for executing the goals and objectives of the County Judge, monitoring progress, and ensuring results are achieved by balancing resources, personnel, and budgets to improve the health, safety, welfare, and economic growth of Benton County.

  • Good computer skills and knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment.
  • Ability to make independent decisions.
  • At least 5-7 years of experience directly related to government administration and business management.

Responsibilities

  • Act in behalf of the County Judge in his/her absence.
  • Assist in the preparation of the county budget, review monthly financial statements, and oversee day-to-day operations and bill paying for accuracy and adherence to budget.
  • Assist the County Clerk in preparing the Quorum Court calendar and agenda, attend meetings, brief the Quorum Court on county affairs, initiate and monitor actions, and solve problems for effective implementation.
  • Directly supervise department heads, assist with writing policies for various departments and personnel, and monitor plans of action.
  • Participate in interviewing and hiring county personnel.
  • Serve as an intergovernmental liaison with cities and other governmental agencies.
  • Answer correspondence for the Judge.
  • Attend meetings with department heads, elected officials, and other county meetings associated with assigned responsibilities (e.g., 9-1-1 Advisory Board, Planning Board, Rural Development Authority, Highway Commission, Personnel Policies Committee, Mayor's meeting).
  • Assist department heads with budget preparation, prepare various budgets, and approve other budgets.
  • Write special project reports, committee reports, and Quorum Court reports.
  • Write news releases and assist in writing speeches for the County Judge.
  • Review other county reports.
  • Assist the grants administrator in writing and reviewing grants.
  • Participate in the implementation and monitoring of special projects such as building construction and hiring county consultants, and write reports for interested parties.
  • Represent the county at community meetings and make presentations to the public.
  • Act as an advisor to the County Judge.
  • Provide assistance and fill in where necessary for all supervised departments.
