About The Position

This is a position-specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year. The main purpose of this position is to perform administrative work in support of the management, staff and daily operations of Freedman’s Historical Park and Patuxent River State Park.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Two years of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.
  • Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience using the following office hardware/equipment: printers, scanners, personal computer, external hard drives, copier, I-Pad or similar device, Smart Phone, digital phone system, cash register
  • Two years of experience using the following computer software: Word, Excel, Quicken, Access, Publisher, Internet Explorer, Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive.
  • Two years of experience dealing with customers/public in the following manners: telephone, e-mail, written correspondence, face to face contact.
  • Two years of experience monitoring and reconciling fiscal/budgetary resources.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance in the formulation and monitoring of the park’s operation budgets.
  • Prepare and process park invoices and bank deposits.
  • Monitor expenditures, corporate card purchases and encumbrances.
  • Maintain park files.
  • Reconcile revenue.
  • Operate a cash register for sales.
  • Track inventories.
  • Make recommendations concerning operational needs and priorities.
  • Respond to inquiries from the public and park staff.
  • Provide current information to customers on park policies, regulations and service charges.
  • Distribute mail.
  • Maintain office files.
  • Compile statistical data to include visitation figures and mileage forms.
  • Prepare seasonal contracts.
  • Purchase office supplies for park staff.
