About The Position

The contractor shall provide a broad range of administrative support services to the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Science’s (SC) Office of Chief Counsel in Oak Ridge. This position is responsible for assisting the Office of Chief Counsel Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act Officer in processing requests for records pursuant to FOIA and the Privacy Act. This includes performing necessary processing functions, ascertaining the validity of requests, verifying the completeness of proposed responses, and ensuring the sufficiency of drafted correspondence. The role also involves processing Privacy Act requests consistent with requirements, preparing correspondence, and receiving and processing documents for the Public Reading Room. The individual must be detail-oriented, capable of reviewing sensitive and lengthy documents, and computer-literate to use systems like FOIAXpress Database and SharePoint.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • 2-3 years of relevant Administrative Support.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Office of Chief Counsel Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act Officer in processing requests for records pursuant to FOIA and the Privacy Act by performing necessary processing functions.
  • Help ascertain the validity of FOIA requests.
  • Verify that proposed responses to FOIA requests are complete.
  • Ensure the sufficiency of drafted correspondence before its presentation to the FOIA and Privacy Act Officer for concurrence and/or dispatch.
  • Process Privacy Act requests consistent with Privacy Act requirements, including its related regulations, implementing directives, and relevant DOE Orders.
  • Prepare correspondence for the FOIA and Privacy Act Officer.
  • Receive documents for placement in the Public Reading Room and processing them, ensuring that they include required information, are in an acceptable form and format.
  • Enter information into a database for forwarding to the Office of Scientific and Technical Information for internet posting.
  • Review documents which, on a document-by-document or request-by-request basis, can be hundreds of pages long and can, by their nature, be quite sensitive.
