About The Position

The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services provides services that promote and improve agriculture, agribusiness, and forests; protect consumers and businesses; and conserve farmland and natural resources for the prosperity of all North Carolinians. The Department employs approximately 2,000 employees. The NCDA&CS Agronomic Services Division (https://www.ncagr.gov/Divisions/Agronomic-Services) provides statewide diagnostic and advisory services that increase agricultural productivity, promote responsible land management, and safeguard environmental quality. The Division is comprised of three laboratory sections and a field services section with a combined total of 60 full-time employees. The Agronomic Division maintains a very active, employee-led safety program and is recognized as a Public-Sector Star site by the NC Department of Labor. The division is currently offering a great opportunity to join its administration team. As an Administrative Specialist I/Data Entry Lead you will report directly to the Administrative Officer I for the Agronomic Division and work with a team of six employees. In this role, you will: • Review and enter client and sample information data into a custom-developed Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). • Provide customer service and other clerical duties such filing documents, answering the phone and serving as a backup receptionist. • Manage workflow as related to overall data entry In addition, the employee has safety management responsibilities to help support the Agronomic Division’s Public Sector Star Safety Program.

Requirements

  • Experience reviewing, editing, and entering data into multiple databases.
  • Experience handling monetary transactions.
  • Experience providing customer service in-person, via email and by telephone.
  • Ability to utilize office equipment and other relevant technology (software and systems) to meet organizational needs.
  • Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing with the ability to use correct grammar, organization, and structure; interpret and explain information to clients/customers and staff.
  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
