About The Position

Under direct supervision, provides routine general clerical support such as filing, taking and delivering messages, preparing mailings and photocopying. This is the first level of a four-level classification series. The Administrative specialist I differs from other classifications in the series in that this classification is considered entry-level. The incumbent performs varied general office support tasks under direct supervision, following specific instructions or established office procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a high school or equivalent with course work in general office practices
  • Six (6) months of experience in an office, administrative, or related support position
  • Skilled in basic arithmetic
  • Skilled in office practices and procedures
  • Skilled in operating office equipment
  • Skilled in oral and written communication
  • Ability to follow clearly stated oral and written instructions or procedures
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by work assignments
  • Ability to follow-through on assignments as directed

Responsibilities

  • Sorts and files material (alphabetical, numerical, subject) by rules and directions furnished.
  • Answers telephones, takes and delivers messages, refers calls to proper person.
  • Performs deliveries to and from work sites.
  • Prepares mailings for distribution and/or processing.
  • Operates equipment such as copier, adding machine, fax machine, etc.
  • Runs errands and works on special projects as needed.
  • Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.
