About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. The Rehabilitation Casework Technician position is located at WorkSource West in Morganton, NC. The primary purpose of this position is to provide casework and service delivery support to the Rehabilitation Counselors and Human Service Coordinators providing vocational rehabilitation services to incarcerated individuals at Foothills Correctional Institution. This position will also provide direct services to consumers with disabilities receiving services on the mental health and physical caseloads in Burke County.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Interviewing consumers and gathering diagnostic reports to assist counselors with determining eligibility and developing individualized plans for employment
  • Documenting casework and the provision of substantial services in the case management system throughout the rehabilitation process
  • Providing follow-up with consumers, employers, schools, vendors, and other agency personnel as needed
  • Assisting vocational rehabilitation staff with employment marketing skills workshops
  • Working with community employers using the Dual Customer Approach to directly place highly qualified consumers with disabilities in appropriate jobs leading to successful outcomes
  • Preparing documents, including case notes, authorizations, and correspondence as needed along with completing all other related administrative tasks
  • Engaging in caseload support assignments, and duties in general, at the discretion of the Unit Manager and based on facility need.
