About The Position

The Maryland State Retirement Agency administers the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System (SRPS), a defined benefit retirement system for Maryland governmental employees. The System comprises twelve retirement and pension systems with over 50 rule sets, serving over 430,000 participants. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Three years of administrative staff or professional work.
  • Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to two years of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from a college or university for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
  • Employees assigned duties requiring the operation of a motor vehicle must possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience reviewing and processing incoming applications, including eligibility for benefits (e.g., retirement, insurance, health, etc.).
  • Experience serving in a lead, senior, or peer-support capacity without direct supervisory responsibility.
  • One year of demonstrated experience working with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Outlook, and Excel at an intermediate level.
  • Experience reviewing work, identifying processing errors or inconsistencies, and recommending appropriate corrections.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead worker of the Retirement Finals Processing Team, working closely with the unit supervisor on daily processing and providing technical direction to staff.
  • Finalize retirement requests and create lifetime payment records.
  • Maintain knowledge of internal policies and procedures, federal and state pension laws, and regulations.
  • Process work accurately and efficiently.
  • Review retirement payrolls and salary data, making recommendations to management for solutions to complex retirement payroll situations.
  • Assign and review estimate requests and application calculation worksheets using independent judgment to minimize backlogs and ensure timely and accurate processing.
  • Review and/or resolve salary audit cases in Customer Relationship Management software (CRM), including reviewing applicable salary data, creating corrective transactions, and submitting for approval.
  • Provide guidance and training to new and existing staff on the preparation and calculation of estimate requests and retirement application calculation worksheets.
  • Assist the section supervisor in preparing and modifying procedures, internal policies, checklists, worksheets, and other job aids.
  • Complete special projects assigned by management, including locating and retiring vested members.
