About The Position

The Administrative Nursing Supervisor facilitates timely and safe patient flow and provides management and operational oversight of the acute care hospital setting, and ensures the provision of safe, quality patient care.

Requirements

  • Associates of Nursing degree from an accredited school
  • NM licensed RN
  • 5 years of relevant experience (acute care-tele or above) and/or leadership nursing experience.
  • BLS

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a clinical resource agent to nursing units and allied health departments for problem solving, within a given shift.
  • Coordinates, prioritizes, and optimizes patient flow activities.
  • Facilitates processes daily to expedite patient movement within the hospital and throughout the organization as well as non-PHS facilities.
  • Participates in evaluation of the patient with the care team to determine level of care/patient placement.
  • Provides and supports oversight of staffing resources in coordination with department leadership.
  • Approves or facilitates placement of staffing resources.
  • Ensures a visible and collegial leadership presence throughout the facility and shift.
  • Responds to all codes and events both internally and externally.
  • Serves as a leadership resource for Presbyterian Health Services policies, procedures, legal and risk issues, and compliance and regulatory standards and accrediting agencies.
  • Responds and resolves team member, patient, family member, and provider concerns, and provides follow-up with appropriate individuals.
  • Provides support, education, coaching, and mentoring to team members.
  • Assists personnel and families in all circumstances that surround death of a patient, facilitating arrangements for autopsies, organ, and tissue donation and /or verification of referrals to the Office of Medical Investigators.
  • Serves as the facilitator for patient matters concerning the American Disability Act, language and/or cultural issues; facilitating assistance as needed within the facility.
  • Manages human resource related functions; not limited to interviewing, onboarding, -, coaching to expectations with standards for care and/or conduct and providing input to department leaders.
  • Provides crisis management support and coordinates follow-up actions with the Administrator-on-call (AOC) and/or department leaders.
  • Initiate Hospital Incident Command (HICS) for the management of internal and external incidents (emergency situations) or events which affect the ability to provide services.
  • Serves as the Incident Commander for all HICS events until the hospital administrator arrives on the scene.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Presbyterian Health Services policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Presbyterian Health Services policies and procedures.
  • Interacts and coordinates activities with a variety of local and out of state health care agents, including PHS regional facilities, EMS, and community members.
  • Upholds and exemplifies CARES commitments utilizing models such as the compassionate connected care model.
  • Represents the organization as a resource to non-health care constituents within the community.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current nursing practice, roles and functions of team members, patient care policies and procedures, and state and federal standards.
  • Uses data and other sources of evidence to inform decision making and to interpret outcome measures.
  • Supports a zero-harm environment and Just Culture; responding and acting on safety recommendations.
  • Actively participates in quality improvement utilizing tools provided by the organization including the daily management system.
  • Ensures compliance with required standards and facilitates timely reporting of liability issues.
  • Participates in regulatory readiness by attendance on preparation committees and/or overseeing implementation of quality-based initiatives.
  • Demonstrates reflective practice and an understanding that all leadership begins from within; applying critical analysis to organizational issues after a review of the evidence.
  • Uses knowledge of classic and contemporary systems thinking in problem solving and decision making.
  • Utilizes change management concept and adapt to leadership style to situation need.
  • May be requested to assume responsibility for nursing leadership in the absence of one or more nurse leaders.
  • Identifies and objectively analyzes problems, generates and evaluates alternative solutions and navigates the system for resources and escalates following chain of command to appropriate leaders as needed.
  • Acts as a role model for standard of professional practice (clinical, educational and leadership) for colleagues and constituents.
  • Upholds ethical principles and corporate compliance standard and involves team members in decisions that affect their practice.
  • Participates in the system wide councils.
  • Mentors the staff and front-line leaders in developing leadership skills.
  • Facilitates effective communication between administration, department directors, staff, physicians, other departments, patients, families, and the public.
  • Participates in conflict resolution as necessary and acts as an effective problem solver.
  • Maintains current knowledge of information in related field through seminars, workshops, and publications.
  • Promotes a healthful work environment and ensures compliance with legal and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensures appropriate utilization of supplies and materials and staffing resources.
  • Proficiently uses technology and databases to support improvement of clinical, safety and fiscal performance.
  • Supports the development and implementation of the department and organizational strategic plan.
  • Completes documentation and reports out on patient census, events and flow outcomes, proficiently operating databases, and bed management programs, and electronic health record.
