About The Position

Eligible for Retention Bonus Bonus is reserved for new hires meeting eligibility criteria BHMG Primary Care J'town The Medical Assistant (MA) Admin role will be responsible for the coordination of patient care activities. This position requires a versatile professional who can seamlessly transition between clinical and administrative responsibilities. Duties include but are not limited to the following: patient medical history information, navigating electronic health records system (EPIC), scheduling and following up with appointments and assisting with medication fill and refill requests, checking for prior authorizations and scheduling tests, procedures, consultations, and other in basket types as assigned. The MA will communicate with pharmacies, insurance companies, patients and physicians in a respectful manner and will uphold Baptist’s mission and core values that drive service excellence. Perform routine patient assessments, including vital signs, height, weight, and chief complaints. Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness and availability of necessary supplies. Manage and update patient medical record. Verify and update patient record to confirm that medical records are correct and up to date, ensuring accurate billing and reimbursement. Answer phone calls, respond to inquiries, and relay messages to healthcare providers. Strive to close care gaps for patients by reviewing reports for overdue preventative diagnostic needs (mammograms, colonoscopy, etc) and assisting to schedule visits. Collect and document all necessary information related to prior authorization process. Complete request forms with accuracy and timeliness. Track and document the status of prior authorization requests in the electronic health record (EHR) system. Monitor the progress of prior authorization request and follow up with insurance companies as needed. Communicate with patients to schedule medical tests, procedures, and consultations based on provider recommendations. Coordinate and schedule appointments for medical tests, procedures, and consultations using scheduling software or electronic health records (EHR). Ensure optimal utilization of available resources, such as equipment and clinical staff when scheduling appointments. Document any changes, cancellations, or rescheduling of appointments promptly. Address scheduling conflicts, cancellations, and other issues quickly; working collaboratively with all relevant stakeholders to find suitable solutions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Equivalency
  • 1+ year(s) of experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical office, clinic or similar setting required.
  • Experience must include direct, hands-on patient care in a clinical setting, such as obtaining vital signs, documenting patient history and medications, and performing clinical procedures (e.g. EKG’s, phlebotomy, administering injections or vaccines).
  • Or Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant training program, that includes hands on patient experience as part of the curriculum, required.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire.
  • BAT and DOT certifications required for Medical Assistants in Occupational Medicine within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with EMR System a plus.
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification from AAMA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, or AAMP.
  • Or graduate of an accredited LPN or RN program with current unrestricted licensure.
