About The Position

This position is a split role, requiring time to be spent on both administrative assistance and laboratory technician duties. The administrative tasks include answering phones, processing accounts receivable and payable, and direct communication with clients via email for invoicing, crediting, and sending certificates. The laboratory responsibilities involve organizing samples, sample control, and processing incoming client samples through weighing and other laboratory procedures. The role requires working with chemical hazards and performing analytical procedures according to standard operating procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (Preferred)
  • Lab experience and Admin experience (Preferred, but willing to train the right candidate)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical language.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to perform basic algebra and statistical analysis.
  • Basic understanding of general chemistry.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and create solutions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to learn computer software programs.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 25 lbs for 25 feet.
  • Must be able to work in hot conditions for extended periods of time.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily administrative tasks such as answering phones, processing accounts receivable and payable.
  • Communicate directly with clients via email for invoicing, crediting, and sending certificates and other documents.
  • Organize samples, manage sample control, and mail samples back to clients.
  • Input, weigh, and process client's incoming samples.
  • Comply with OHS Act and Regulations, BV Group Policy and Procedures, High Grade Management System Policies and Procedures, and applicable ISO standards.
  • Act in a safe and professional manner, wearing appropriate attire and required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Use laboratory balances, moisture machines, drying ovens, LOI ovens, annealing ovens, and other lab equipment.
  • Carry out analytical procedures in accordance with documented SOPs and other work instructions.
  • Ensure proper functioning of analytical operations through calibration of balances and other equipment.
  • Use SORBY system and possess basic computer skills, including Microsoft programs.
  • Calibrate, operate, and analyze samples using various analytical techniques.
  • Stock the lab with necessary supplies and update the order list when supplies are low.
  • Prepare and refill reagents for lab use.
  • Manage acid waste disposal.
  • Weigh and digest samples for various techniques such as gravimetric, precipitations, aqua regia, and salt fusions.
  • Perform fundamental lab tasks including sample weigh and prep, moisture, LOI, PH analysis, roasting, pre-igniting, metal rolling, tubing, Ytt spiking, sample storage, sample returns, density calculations, basic dilutions, salt fusions, filtering, precipitations, acid waste disposal, inventory, and XRF.
  • Organize samples, ensuring proper placement and storage of client samples.
  • Wash dishes properly to ensure clean glassware.
  • Practice good housekeeping, including cleaning stations before and after use and general lab cleaning.
  • Communicate general laboratory issues, deviations from procedures, unsafe conditions, nonconforming work, customer samples, or test data to the Laboratory Manager.
  • Approve orders and maintain a vision of revenue for each month.
  • Track inter-group billing and maintain accurate Work-In-Progress (WIP).
  • Manage CAPEX orders and communicate with vendors.
  • Handle invoicing and credit memos.
  • Track finances and follow up on overdue invoices.
  • Attend meetings, such as collection meetings.
  • Manage sample input, organization, and control of samples being dumped, shipped, or returned.
  • Maintain records of samples, including shipping and disposal dates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
