The Administrative House Manager acts as a hospital administrator in their absence. They communicate with Nurse Managers, Directors, and Administrators regarding problems, interventions, and decisions made by the Supervisor. This role provides written documentation regarding problems, actions taken, and results. The Administrative House Manager investigates incidents, discusses them with staff as appropriate, and reports all information to leadership. They assess emergency situations, respond promptly and effectively, and notify the appropriate authorities and Administration as needed. This role implements the disaster plan as needed and functions as a resource regarding legal aspects of policies, procedures, and regulations governing the hospital. They maintain current knowledge of hospital policies, procedures, and situations that may affect the overall functioning of the hospital. The Administrative House Manager functions as a patient advocate, responding to patient, family, and physician concerns, and assists nursing staff to intervene on the patient’s behalf. They understand and utilize the chain of command as needed to provide quality patient care. This role maintains a safe patient environment by reporting safety concerns to the appropriate person. They support a shared governance style of leadership, assist nursing units in independently seeking solutions to their problems, and share knowledge openly. The Administrative House Manager promotes harmony and teamwork by assisting with conflict resolution. They confer with the Central Staffing Office and Command Center to facilitate the movement of patients and staff throughout the hospital. They maintain current knowledge of bed availability and are responsible for the decision to divert patients. This role assists in the resolution of staffing issues and confers with charge nurses in all areas. They make rounds on patients and actively participate in Quality Assurance/Improvement Programs. The Administrative House Manager conducts restraint audits and responds to all codes. They post unscheduled/emergent/urgent surgical cases and notify those on call. This role provides access to supplies and equipment and follows procedures for inter-facility equipment acquisition/borrowing and lending. They consider the budget in all decisions, seek methods for decreasing costs, and share these ideas with staff and management. The Administrative House Manager maintains a high level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing with people. They use tact, sensitivity, and sound judgment when relating to patients, families, and co-workers. This role displays a professional attitude, including a professional appearance. They demonstrate a strong ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems. The Administrative House Manager understands and considers the ramifications decisions may have on other departments. They ensure consistency, dependability, and accuracy when carrying out responsibilities. Performs other related duties as assigned.
