As the Mountain West’s only academic health care system, U of U Health comprises of 5 hospitals, 12 community clinics, and several specialty centers. The Hospitals and Clinics administrative fellow will be exposed to a range of operational activities across those facilities and its health care professionals. Program preceptors include Dan Lundergan, Systems COO, Hospitals and Clinics CEO; Gina Hawley System, Associate COO; and Dayle Benson, Medical Group Chief of Staff & Executive Director. The fellow may also receive mentorship from other C-Suite and executive level leaders. With the preceptors guidance, the administrative fellow will participate in a wide array of projects and rotations during their fellowship. The projects and rotations are at the fellow's preference and the preceptor’s discretion. The one-year fellowship (starting summer 2027) at University of Utah Health is tailored to the interests of the candidate selected. It is a comprehensive learning opportunity which refines the individual's analytical, technical, decision-making, interpersonal and managerial skills. Areas of opportunity for project work include, but are not limited to: operations, finance, strategic planning, new business development, ambulatory services, quality improvement, academic and community physician management, financial and performance analysis, organizational development, telehealth strategies, health insurance operations, and employee relations.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Business, Health Care Administration, a related field, or equivalency by the start of the fellowship (June/July 2027).

Responsibilities

  • Participates and leads ongoing planning, and execution, of projects as assigned by the preceptor and members of senior management.
  • Obtains, analyzes, synthesizes, and interprets industry and institutional data, as well as market utilization and financial data.
  • Assists in obtaining and evaluating benchmark data.
  • Performs independent analysis of operational, financial and statistical information using spreadsheets, financial modeling software, and computer aided design software, as assigned.
  • Prepares presentations and quality reports.
  • Presents, communicates and disseminates findings.
  • Provides staff support for committee meetings, including preparation of minutes and reports.
  • Monitors and coordinates progress of committees.
  • Participates in rotations throughout the hospitals to contribute to the fellows learning about the operation of an academic medical center.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of emerging healthcare challenges facing hospitals and healthcare systems nationally.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the members of the senior management team.
