About The Position

DLZ Corporation is seeking a highly organized Administrative Coordinator to support the Detroit, MI Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) Water Main Construction Group. The position will provide administrative and permit-processing support for Lead Service Line (LSL) construction activities, with primary responsibility for processing Building, Safety Engineering, and Environmental Department (BSEED) permits through the ACCELA permitting system. The selected candidate will enter permit applications, upload required documentation, monitor application status, coordinate corrections or missing information, and maintain complete permit records. The role is intended to help prevent permit-processing delays from disrupting scheduled LSL construction work.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher required.
  • Two (2) or more years of administrative support, project coordination, permit processing, document control, records management, or related experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and electronic document-management or workflow systems.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to manage multiple applications, deadlines, follow-up items, and stakeholder communications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating with technical, construction, contractor, and municipal personnel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using ACCELA or a comparable municipal permitting platform.
  • Experience with City of Detroit BSEED permitting or other municipal permit processes.
  • Administrative or document-control experience supporting construction, engineering, utilities, public infrastructure, or government programs.
  • Familiarity with DWSD, water-main construction, lead service line replacement, or contractor permitting workflows.
  • Experience preparing status trackers, reports, correspondence, and auditable project records.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, enter, and submit BSEED permit applications through the ACCELA permitting system.
  • Upload, organize, and maintain required permit documentation and supporting construction records.
  • Monitor application status, review comments, approvals, corrections, and outstanding actions.
  • Coordinate with DWSD personnel, contractors, BSEED reviewers, and project staff to obtain missing or corrected information.
  • Maintain accurate electronic permit files, status logs, correspondence, and supporting records for LSL construction activities.
  • Prepare routine permit-status reports and identify items that may affect scheduled construction work.
  • Perform data entry, document control, recordkeeping, correspondence, and other administrative support tasks.
  • Follow established confidentiality, records-management, quality, and project procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
