About The Position

The Harris County Attorney's Office (HCAO) is hiring an administrative clerk to join our Compliance & Revenue Division, which specializes in lawsuits for debt collection and enforcement of laws that protect the interests of Harris County. Under the supervision of the Division Director, the administrative clerk is responsible for performing delegated administrative tasks and works to achieve optimum efficiency and accomplish the goals of the Division and County Attorney’s Office. The selected candidate may be eligible to participate in the HCAO telework program.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution.
  • Excellent research, writing, and customer service skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to communicate and work in a collaborative group.
  • Proficiency with technology and legal tools such as Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Software, LawBase, JIMS, TLO, and DEEDS.
  • Ability to comply with the Harris County Personnel Policies and Procedures and the policies of the County Attorney.
  • Ability to perform thorough factual analyses and exercise good judgment.
  • Occasional ability to work extended hours to accommodate workload demands.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize assignments to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to comply with office training requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining knowledge of the procedure to open, close, and update files using the case management database to open, close, and update files using the Compliance & Revenue Database and run reports.
  • Manage a high call volume with the public.
  • Prepare and process demand letters.
  • Prepare and process payment agreements.
  • Analyzing, organizing, and tracking case files so files may be available to the attorneys in paper form or electronic form.
  • Keep accurate notes in the database of each case.
  • Ability to communicate and meet with the public and defendants, including the ability to resolve issues within attorneys' parameters.
  • Provide general administrative and clerical support.
  • Produces high-quality and accurate work.
  • Demonstrates good knowledge of job and required duties.
  • Maintains a work schedule that facilitates the needs of the organization.
  • Regularly communicate with the Division Director, attorneys, and other staff members.
  • Maintaining proficiency in internet resources.
  • Acquiring familiarity with commonly used legal terms.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
