The Administrative Assistant provides general administrative, clerical, and secretarial support to a department or group. The role exercises independent judgment on moderately difficult assignments and requires instructions only for new assignments. The position prepares documents, reports, presentations, and summaries; supports communications; answers phones and welcomes visitors; and coordinates meetings, calendars, travel, and day-to-day activities. It also manages records, office supplies, incoming information, and document control systems. The Administrative Assistant helps keep leaders and teams organized, supports newer employees, and resolves routine problems to help the department operate effectively. The successful candidate must obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance. The position requires a pre-employment background check and drug test. Employees subject to the clearance requirement are also included in random drug testing and may be tested following certain incidents or when there is reasonable suspicion of impairment. A federal background investigation and possible subsequent reinvestigations are required for a Q clearance. All hires must verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
