About The Position

The U.S. Probation Office for the Southern District of Texas is seeking an Administrative Assistant to assist probation officers in their investigation and supervision responsibilities. This role is part of the federal judiciary and supports the district courts. It is important to note that this position is not a career path to becoming a United States Probation Officer, and experience gained will not provide an advantage in future Probation Officer hiring initiatives. The starting salary range is CL 23 ($40,542 - $65,950) annually, with promotional opportunities to CL 24 ($44,918 - $73,008).

Requirements

  • Two years of general clerical or office experience required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of people
  • Good organizational skills required
  • Experience and proficiency with PCs and Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel are required
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or be able to prove that U.S. citizenship is timely being sought

Nice To Haves

  • College degree preferred
  • The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to make constructive suggestions for improvements in work processes to better achieve the goals and objectives of the department
  • Minimum of 50 WPM typing preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conducting inquiries and collecting verifiable information and supporting documentation
  • Entering, analyzing, and maintaining data in the office's computerized database
  • Preparing and processing forms, documents and reports according to internally established standards and procedures
  • Preparing and updating case files
  • Answering and screening phone calls and providing information to a wide variety of individuals representing the court, other agencies and the general public
  • Performing other duties as assigned
